Bright, fresh and vibrant. Florals and red fruits abound! Cherries, raspberries, rhubarb, and fennel with a twist of spice and aromatic herbs. The juicy core of sweet red fruits is framed by fine, sandy tannins making this a salivating and moreish drink.

Winemaking

The Grenache is hand harvested from gnarly old McLaren Flat bush vines planted in 1941. We throw a few whole bunches into the ferment for extra perfume and aromatics.

The Shiraz is from a beautiful site high on a ridge in Tatachilla that benefits from the cooling sea breeze, retaining the redder fruit flavours and beautiful florals and aromatics.

The Mourvèdre is hand harvested from a dry grown block on deep Blewitt Springs sand. It’s dark and broody yet displays the trademark perfume and finesse this sub region is known for.

Sourced from the slopes of Sellicks Hill, the Carignan is the final piece in the blend and brings a little dollop of raspberry and rustic herbs and spicy notes.

Open fermentation, hand plunged, matured in French oak puncheons, no fining or filtration.

"65/21/10/4% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre/carignan, from McLaren Flat/Tatachilla/ Blewitt Springs/Sellicks Hill respectively. The grenache comes of the same 1941-planted block that makes up their varietal bottling, but here it plays out in a more lifted and red-fruited way, with red florals, raspberry pastille, cranberry and glossy Bing cherries. Some darker berries lurk in the corners, along with black pepper and anise, amaro herbs and iron-laced earthy notes. This is what they call their “lunch wine”, and the brightness, lean towards medium weight and skein of fine food-apt tannin certainly fulfils that brief."

"The 2023 Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre is juicy and sweetly fruited but spiced and peppered by the inclusion of Shiraz and Mourvèdre. This is so vibrant and fleshy right now; it is all about the red and pink fruit nuances. These will likely morph and shape over time to gain more meaty, exotically spiced characters. It's an attractive lunch wine, possessed of the same opulently sweet Grenache fruit as the Grenache tasted alongside it."

"Meaty, spicy, kind of brambly with raspberry, cherry and dried herb perfume. It’s medium-bodied, quite savoury, a light rustic chew to tannin, dry and a little bit saline on a finish of good length. Good wine. Interesting and good to drink."
